GVSU Puts the Clamp on Chargers

GVSU Puts the Clamp on Chargers

Box Score

There was a virtual lid on the rim for the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Saturday afternoon.

The Chargers shot 2-for-27 from 3-point territory in a 63-42 loss to Grand Valley State in Allendale. The loss drops Hillsdale to 9-9 overall and 6-8 in the GLIAC.

The 3-point shot has been a solid indicator of success this season for Hillsdale. The team is 4-0 when it makes 10- or more shots from beyond the arc, and that kind of shooting was key against a team like the Lakers. But only Morgan Blair and Kayla Geffert were able to get a shot to fall from behind the 3-point arc.

The Chargers tied their season-low in scoring, thanks to 28 percent shooting from the field overall (19-for-67), coupled with attempting just five free throws in the entire game. GVSU was whistled for just 11 fouls, showing that the Lakers were able to balance playing tough defense without fouling.

Sophomore center Allie Dittmer was a bright spot for Hillsdale, recording her second consecutive double-double. She led the team with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Blair scored 7 in the contest for Hillsdale.

The Lakers outrebounded the Chargers 44-36 and had 17 assists on 22 made field goals, compared to just 6 assists on 17 made field goals for Hillsdale.

UP NEXT: The Chargers will host a much-improved Saginaw Valley State team at 6 p.m. Monday at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena.
