Box Score

No GLIAC women's basketball team is ranked as high in the national polls as the Ashland University Eagles, and Wednesday night, that team gave ample evidence of its ranking.

The 12th-ranked Eagles ran away with an 80-42 win over Hillsdale College at the Kates Gymnasium in Ashland, dropping the Chargers to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC. Ashland is 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Ashland took a 20-5 lead in the first six minutes of the first quarter and never looked back. The Eagles harassed the Chargers into turnovers and rushed shots, while draining shots from all over the court.

Hillsdale shot 27 percent from the field (16-for-60) while missing 10 of its 13 attempts from 3-point territory. The Chargers committed 28 turnovers, which became 30 Ashland points in the contest.

One bright spot for Hillsdale was the play of freshman Brittany Gray, who scored a career-high 10 points. Senior Kayla Geffert scored 7 of her team-high 11 points in the first quarter, while Madison Berry and Makenna Ott each scored 7 in the loss.

UP NEXT: Hillsdale travels to Painesville, Ohio to face Lake Erie College at 1 p.m. Saturday.
