Panthers Pick Up Win Over Chargers

The Ohio Dominican University women's basketball team made 54 percent of its shows and forced 20 Hillsdale turnovers as the Chargers suffered their first GLIAC loss of the 2015-16 season Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale was on the losing end of a 91-62 decision to the much-improved Panthers at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena, dropping its record to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.

The Panthers showed excellent spacing, passing and versatility on offense, with four starters scoring in double figures in the game. Those same four starters all shot better than 50 percent from the field as well.

Hillsdale struggled to find a consistent flow on both ends of the court in the game. ODU took quick command with a 32-point first quarter, the most points the Chargers have allowed in any quarter this season.

Hillsdale shot 32 percent from the field, a season-low, and shot 4-for-19 from 3-point land.

Sophomore guard Maddy Reed scored a career-high 12 points to pace the Hillsdale offense, also picking up 5 rebounds in a scrappy performance. Junior guard Morgan Blair hit a pair of 3-pointers and finished the game with 9 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Junior guard Becca Scherting also scored 9, while senior guard Madison Berry added 8.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: ODU outscored Hillsdale by 9 points in both the third and fourth quarters…The Chargers also made just 57 percent of their free throws, their lowest percentage of the season…Hillsdale had more offensive rebounds (19) than defensive rebounds (18).

UP NEXT: Hillsdale travels to Ashland to take on the Eagles at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
