The home rims were unkind to the Hillsdale College women's basketball team when it returned home Thursday night.
The Chargers suffered through a difficult night shooting in a 69-49 loss to Ferris State University at Dawn Tibbetts Potter Arena. The loss drops Hillsdale to 15-9 overall and 11-9 in the GLIAC. However, the Chargers are still inside the GLIAC postseason mix, holding the eighth spot in the conference overall standings.
Saturday night, Hillsdale heads to Grand Valley State for a matchup with the Lakers before returning home for the regular season finale against Saginaw Valley State next Thursday.
The Chargers faced a 15-point halftime deficit, thanks to a frigid 6-for-31 shooting stat line from the floor. Hillsdale was getting good shots much of the time, they simply weren't going in. The team stayed aggressive, as evidenced by its season-high 21 offensive rebounds. But a 17-for-60 shooting performance for the game – including 3-for-17 from 3-point land – doomed the Chargers.
Sophomore guard Morgan Blair led Hillsdale with 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals. Senior Kadie Lowery made two 3-pointers and finished with 10, while senior Megan Fogt had 7 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.
Hillsdale outrebounded Ferris State 46-38, and was led by a career-high 12 rebounds off the bench by freshman Allie Dittmer.
