Chargers Fall in Season Finale to Findlay; Wayne State Up Next

Box Score

Despite a near-perfect and near-record setting perfomance by junior Megan Fogt, the Charger women's basketball team concluded its regular season with a loss Thursday night.

But the season is far from over for this team.

Hillsdale was on the losing end of a 78-66 decision to the Oilers at the Hillsdale College Arena. Hillsdale enters the postseason with a 12-14 overall record and 11-11 in the GLIAC. Findlay's season ends with a 12-14 mark, 9-13 in conference play.

The Chargers will take on top-seeded Wayne State University at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 5 in Detroit.

Fogt, a strong contender for GLIAC Player of the Year, was unstoppable, scoring 29 points to go along with 21 points and 2 assists. She went 14-for-15 from the field, making her last 14 shots in a row, a new school record for one game. Her 14 field goals made are the second-most in a game in school history, and the most by any Hillsdale College women's basketball player in five years.

While Fogt carved up the interior of the Oiler defense, Findlay played an outstanding game in several other aspects. The Oilers committed just 9 turnovers compared to 24 for Hillsdale, and Findlay went 7-for-15 from 3-point land in the first half, when it built a nine-point lead.

Findlay outscored Hillsdale 17-7 in points off turnovers, including 10-2 in the second half. The Oilers also played with controlled aggression on offense, and were rewarded with 26 free throw attempts, compared to 12 for the Chargers. Findlay produced 17 steals in the contest.

Junior forward Chelsea Farrell followed up her career-high 22 from last Saturday with another strong effort in this game, with 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists. Junior Kadie Lowery also scored 12 points, while sophomore Kelsey Cromer added 8, making two 3-point baskets.
