Fogt's 13th Double-Double Lifts Hillsdale Over Walsh

Fogt's 13th Double-Double Lifts Hillsdale Over Walsh

Box Score

February 23, 2013 - Sophomore center Megan Fogt had another dominating game in the paint as the Hillsdale College women's basketball team won for the second time in a row, 70-57, over Walsh University Saturday afternoon in Canton, Ohio.

Hillsdale is now 11-13 overall and 8-13 in the GLIAC. The Chargers play their final home game of the season Wednesday against Cedarville before wrapping up the regular season Saturday, March 2 at Findlay.

Fogt now has 13 double-doubles this season, more than twice as many as any other Charger has had in a season since the record-breaking season turned in by Katie Cezat in 2008-09. Cezat's 28 double-doubles that season set a new NCAA Division II record, but that should not minimize the outstanding season turned in by Fogt, who is wrapping up her first season as a starter.

She owned the paint against the Cavs with 15 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots. She went 5-for-8 from the field and logged 31 minutes on the court. This was Fogt's fourth double-double in her past six games, and Hillsdale has won all four of those games. She's averaging more than 11 rebounds per game in her last seven, and her 249 rebounds this season place her 10th on the school's single-season top 10 list.

The Chargers grabbed control of the game over the final few minutes of the first half. Walsh led Hillsdale 15-12 with eight minutes left in the first half when the Chargers responded with a half-ending 17-10 run that gave them a slim 28-25 lead at halftime. The second half was all Hillsdale, as it held Walsh to 31 percent shooting over the final 20 minutes, and outscored the Cavs from the 3-point stripe 15-3.

Freshman guard Madison Berry played a key role in helping the team pull away late, finishing with a career-high nine points.

Contributing greatly to Hillsdale's 50-31 advantage on the boards was sophomore Kadie Lowery, who grabbed a career-high seven rebounds to go along with her 10 points. Although Fogt and Lowery were the only Chargers to score in double figures, the team featured excellent balance in its scoring, with 12 different players finding their way into the score book.
