December 8, 2012 - In the first half of Saturday's GLIAC women's basketball game between Hillsdale College and Michigan Tech, the Chargers put up points at a pace not seen in nearly three seasons. Unfortunately for Hillsdale, the second half was a different story.
The Huskies knocked off the Chargers 78-65 to put Hillsdale at 4-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Hillsdale is now off for one week and will wrap up play in the calendar year of 2012 with a pair of home games against Grand Valley State and Ferris State, on Dec. 15 and 17 respectively.
In the first half, Hillsdale scored 47 points and held a three-point lead. It was the most points the Chargers had scored in the first half of a game since they tallied 56 against Tiffin on Jan. 23, 2010. However, the rims were not as kind to either team in the second half.
The Chargers and Huskies combined for 91 points in the first half, then just 53 in the second half. Michigan Tech outscored Hillsdale 34-18 to turn around the halftime deficit to pull away for the victory. The Charger offense, so potent in the first half, struggled to find scoring in the second half, going 5-for-30 from the field as a team in the game's final 20 minutes.
Sophomore forward Megan Fogt put together a 20-point, 10-rebound game to lead Hillsdale. After being held to a total of nine points in her previous two games, Fogt bounced back impressively, going 7-for-14 from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. She has five double-digit rebounding games out of seven this season.
Sophomore guard Brooke Borowski had her best offensive game of her young career, totaling 12 points. Ten of those came in her first six minutes on the floor in the first half. She drained two 3-pointers, and made all four of her free throws in the contest.
Junior Angela Bisaro and senior Lea Jones each scored 10 for Hillsdale.
