December 6, 2012 - Big second-half performances from junior forward Angela Bisaro and sophomore guard Kadie Lowery weren't enough to help the Hillsdale College women's basketball team Thursday night.
The Chargers dropped a 58-48 decision to the host Northern Michigan University Wildcats in a GLIAC matchup in the Upper Peninsula. Hillsdale is now 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the GLIAC, and will take on Michigan Tech University at 3 p.m. Saturday in Houghton.
The game started off with the rims being unkind to the Chargers, as they made just five field goals in the first half and shot 20 percent as NMU built an eight-point halftime lead. That lead grew to as many as 17 before Hillsdale mounted a comeback in the second half.
Bisaro scored 16 of her team-high 20 points in the second half, and was not only effective shooting the basketball (6-for-8), but also did a good job getting to the free throw line, where she made eight of her 10 attempts.
Lowery scored a season-hig h11 points whilwe logging 27 minutes off the bench. Typically a 3-point shooting specialist, Lowery brought her game closer to the basket and made five of her eight shots from inside the 3-point arc, certainly a positive development in her offensive game.
Bisaro and sophomore Megan Fogt shared the rebounding lead for Hillsdale with nine apiece. The Chargers had a 19-8 edge in bench scoring, but the Wildcats were plus-8 in points in the paint (28-20).
