From the Range Master...

The Halter Shooting Sports Education Center has been a busy place in recent weeks. Many young shooters were here practicing for the Michigan Junior Olympic State Championship May 5th and 6th. Congratulations to Kassidy Groeper for securing top lady in the Bunker Trap event, and Noah Roth first place for men. In International Skeet, Jacenta Jacob achieved women’s high score with Nathan Eisenhardt earning high for men.
Mike Healy, a teacher at Reading High School in neighboring Reading, Michigan, has been instrumental in starting a clay target shotgun team. This is the first school in our area to join the wave of schools around the country starting clay target teams.
The Reading team, along with our Hillsdale Chargers, was treated to a special guest visit. Six time Olympic Champion Kim Rhode was here May 11th and spent a considerable amount of time talking with guests at the range. The students were happy to meet her and hold her numerous medals. She signed a shooting vest and other items for the students as well. We’re honored that Ms. Rhode visited Hillsdale College’s shooting facilities—what an amazing opportunity!
Our sporting clays course looks beautiful! We want to encourage you to take advantage of the new hours this year on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10am-2pm. Thursday open clay target shooting will continue through May 25. Starting June 3rd, we will move to Saturday mornings from 9am-2pm.
We hope to see you at the range!

"We love to have visitors here at the Shooting Range. You're always welcome. There's no college in the country that has a facility like this."
Charger Spotlight
Ian Dupre
Ian Dupre is a senior economics major at Hillsdale College and has been a member of the Shotgun Team for four years. While shooting with the team throughout college, Ian has learned what it means to be a much better shooter. Surrounded by other gifted athletes, Ian says, “the level of talent pushes you to want to be better yourself.” All team members are required to shoot each discipline, but often the athletes specialize in one or two. Ian has devoted most of his time to International Trap, or Bunker, which he has been shooting for five years. “It’s been a constant grind. I still feel like I have a long way to go. Bunker is a game you really don’t get good at the first two or three years you shoot.” In addition to shooting for the Hillsdale team, Ian shoots on a team for Keystone Shooting Park in Pennsylvania. After graduation, Ian plans to continue shooting, leading up to the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo and “work whatever jobs accommodate that lifestyle.” His goal is to one-day join the U.S. Olympic Shooting Team.
