Dana Weidinger Named G-MAC Pitcher of the Week

The first game of the 2020 season was delayed by 48 hours for the Hillsdale College softball team, due to rain in Tennessee and snow in Georgia last weekend.

But the wait was worth it.

Hillsdale's season opener was pushed from Friday to Sunday, but in that season opener, senior pitcher Dana Weidinger was dialed in, tossing a five-hit shutout in a 4-0 win over McKendree. As a result, she was selected the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

Entering her fourth year as the team's starting pitcher, Weidinger was at her best in Sunday's season opener, walking just one batter while striking out seven in seven innings of work. She allowed just five hits to the Bearcats and held them down long enough for the Chargers to score three big insurance runs in the sixth inning, earning their first win of the season. She is the 21st different Charger athlete to be named a G-MAC Player of the Week during the 2019-20 school year.

Weidinger enters the 2020 season ranked seventh in school history with 30 wins and ninth in school history with 230 career strikeouts. She hails from Bath, Ohio.
