Hillsdale Suffers Frustrating Losses at Tiffin

Game 1 box score: Tiffin 7, Hillsdale 6 (10 inn.)

Game 2 box score: Tiffin 4, Hillsdale 3

The Charger softball team suffered a pair of very frustrating defeats at Tiffin University Saturday afternoon.

In game one, the Dragons drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10th inning to complete a come-from-behind 7-6 win. The international tiebreaker rule was triggered in the 10th inning, which means a runner gets placed on second base before the inning starts. The Dragons took advantage, by getting a sacrifice bunt to place that runner on third. Two intentional walks were issued to help set up a force play, but Tiffin was able to score the game-winning run.

The loss spoiled what was a terrific pitching start by freshman Camryn Olson. She threw 6.2 innings while allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts. Tiffin took advantage of two Hillsdale errors in the sixth inning, scoring five unearned runs to tighten up what was a 6-0 ballgame.

Junior Sam Catron went 3-for-4, and Amanda Marra was 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two.

In game two, the Dragons again won in walk-off fashion. A leadoff walk resulted in the game-winning run off a single to center field.

Jessica Taylor had a terrific game, going 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI. Catron recorded her second straight multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 with a run batted in and a run scored. Senior Katie Kish went 1-for-4 and scored a run.
