Sunday's G-MAC doubleheader down south ended better than it began for the Hillsdale College softball team.
After getting battered in a 10-2 loss in game one to Kentucky Wesleyan, the Chargers bounced back impressively with a 6-2 win over the Panthers in game two of their Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup in Owensboro.
The doubleheader split leaves the Chargers at 9-16 overall and 3-3 in conference play. Hillsdale will take on Trevecca Nazarene in Nashville Monday in a pair of rescheduled games.
Game one was a forgettable one for the Chargers, who managed just two hits and saw the game ended thanks to the NCAA's run rule. The Panthers scored in all four innings and led from start to finish, enjoying a 12-2 hits edge. Katie Kish had a two-run single in the opener for Hillsdale.
In game two, the Chargers scored two runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings, doing a nice job of getting hits with runners on base.
Freshman Renee Bielawa is showing some excellent skills in the batter's box early in her career. She was 2-for-4 with a double, a run batted in and a run scored.
Senior Amanda Marra continued her blistering run of late with two hits and two runs batted in. Sophomore Natalie Walters also went 2-for-4 and scored a run.
Walters went all seven innings on the mound, picking up her team-high fifth win of the season. She struck out four batters and forced KWC to strand 10 runners on base in the second game.
