Game 2 box score: Findlay 6, Hillsdale 2

Playing for the first time in nine days, the Hillsdale College softball team dropped both ends of a Sunday doubleheader to the University of Findlay at the Marathon Diamonds.

The Oilers won the games by scores of 5-2 and 6-2, dropping the Chargers to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Findlay used the long ball to take the lead in each game, while the Chargers were unable to cash in on some of the opportunities they had with runners on base.

In the opener, the Chargers took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to a two-out single by junior Jessica Taylor. Her hit scored Katie Kish and Amanda Marra, who led off the game with base hits. But that would be the only scoring offense generated by Hillsdale in game one, as Findlay used a three-run home run to take the lead in the third inning.

Freshman Erin Hunt struck out six batters in four innings on the mound in game one. Marra was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Taylor was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

Game two saw the teams combine for 24 total hits, but only eight total runs as each pitcher worked their way out of jams at different points in the ballgame. Findlay outhit Hillsdale 14-10 in the nightcap.

Freshman Natalie Walters batted third in the lineup in game two and delivered a run-scoring triple for Hillsdale. Kish was 3-for-4 with a run scored while sophomore Sydney San Juan continues to be productive at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a run scored. Freshman Emma Johnson added a single and a stolen base for the Chargers in the second game.
