The Hillsdale College softball team took a quick step outside of league play Tuesday afternoon and came up with two more wins, extending its winning streak to four games.
The Chargers defeated Lourdes University 5-4 and 5-3 in a pair of games played at Johnny Williams Fieold. The team improved to 23-18 overall on the season with the sweep.
Senior Bekah Kastning kept moving up the record book with a very productive day at the plate. She hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to push the Chargers to the game one victory. Senior Cassie Asselta led off the inning with a double, and pinch runner Katie Kish scored the decisive run on Kastning's blast.
Kastning had two hits in the opener and three more in the second, giving her 71 hits on the season. She became the third player in school history to notch a 70-hit season, and the first one since 1995.
Sophomore Amanda Marra was 1-for-2 with two runs batted in during the first game, and junior Kelsey Gockman scored twice.
Freshman pitcher Erin Gordon got both wins on the mound for Hillsdale, winning the first in a starting role and getting her second win of the day in a relief effort. In game one, she allowed three earned runs in a complete-game effort. In the second game, she pitched three perfect innings with two strikeouts, both coming in the seventh inning.
Lourdes led 3-1 in the second game when the Chargers rallied for three in the fifth to take the lead. Kastning led off the frame with a long double, and she advanced to third on a groundout by Sam Catron. Kish's single scored Kastning, and Haley Lawrence followed later with a bases-loaded single that scored Jessica Taylor and Amanda Marra with the game-deciding runs.
Kish was 2-for-4 with two runs batted in, and Lawrence also picked up a pair of hits. Kastning was 3-for-4 and scored a run.
