Game 1 box score: Hillsdale 4, Findlay 2

Game 2 box score: Findlay 3, Hillsdale 2

In the GLIAC openers for both teams, the softball squads from Hillsdale College and the University of Findlay squared off in a pair if tightly played games at Johnny Williams Field.

Hillsdale won the first game 4-2, but fell in game 2 3-2. The Chargers are now 11-14 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.

In the opener, the Chargers made solid contact with the ball up and down the lineup. Three players had multi-hit games, and the team knocked out 10 hits overall.

Hillsdale scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead. A valuable insurance run came across in the sixth when Katie Kish scored Bekah Kastning on a two-out single.

Kish was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a run batted in while freshmen Sydney San Juan and Sam Catron each had two hit games in their home collegiate debut performances. Freshman Victoria Addis also had a double and scored a run in her first home game.

Freshman pitcher Dana Weidinger earned the victory on the mound, striking out four batters while not allowing an earned run.

Game two was a frustrating one for the Chargers, who once again hit the ball hard, but directly at fielders more often than not.

In the fifth inning, Hillsdale loaded the bases with one out. Sophomore Amanda Marra belted a screaming line drive straight at the Findlay pitcher, who then flipped the ball to first for an inning-ending double play. Marra's ball was one of the hardest hit all day, but unfortunately for Hillsdale, hit the defender's glove in tenths of a second.

Kish had another two-hit game for Hillsdale, while Kelsey Gockman and Cassie Asselta each had a hit and a run batted in.
