Box Score

The Hillsdale College softball team (7-9) strung hits together for 3 runs in the seventh inning, but it was not enough. They were defeated 6-3 by Auburn University-Montgomery (15-11) Monday morning in Clermont, Florida.

The Warhawks jumped ahead 2-0 in the second inning, and the score remained until the sixth. The line-up drew 2 walks, 1 error, and knocked 3 singles in the inning to tack on 4 runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The Charger offense was held to 2 hits for 6 innings by Auburn senior pitcher, Rachel Ragland, who picked up the win for the Warhawks.

In the seventh, Freshman Victoria Addis started the inning by reaching on an error, advanced third on a double off the bat of junior Haley Lawrence, and later scored on a wild pitch for the Chargers' first run. Sophomore Amanda Marra knocked a 2-out double to score Lawrence and bring the score to 6-2. Sophomore Katie Kish later batted in Marra with a single through the infield to cut the deficit 6-3.

The late rally forced Auburn to reach into the bullpen for a pitching change with two outs in the seventh, but fell short for a final score of 6-3.

Freshman Dana Weidinger took the loss in the circle for the Chargers, striking out 3 and walking 2.

The Chargers will be back on the dirt Wednesday March 15 against Illinois-Springfield at 1:00pm.
