Game 1 box score: Hillsdale 12, St. Ambrose 4

Game 2 box score: Hillsdale 14, St. Francis (IN) 4

The bats broke out in a big way on Hillsdale's third day in Florida Saturday afternoon.

The Charger softball team didn't need seven innings in either of its games in Clermont, picking up wins of 12-4 over St. Ambrose (five inn.) and 14-4 over St. Francis of Indiana (six inn.), improving its record to 7-8 on the season.

Hillsdale had 27 hits between the two games and wasted little time in building big leads for its pitchers.

In game one against St. Ambrose, the Chargers smashed five doubles as a team in the victory.

Freshman Sydney San Juan was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, enjoying the best offensive game of her young career. Freshman Julia Huebner also had a two-hit game, hitting right behind San Juan in the order.

Freshman Victoria Addis had a double, going 3-for-3 while scoring three times. Senior Bekah Kastning started off a huge day by doubling twice, driving in two runs and scoring once.

Hillsdale scored once in the first, but tacked on four in the second, three in the third and four more runs in the fourth inning.

In game two against St. Francis, Kastning had her third career four-hit game, going 4-for-4 with a career-high four runs scored. She was hit by a pitch in her fifth at bat, meaning she reached base seven times in eight at bats Saturday. She lifted her batting average for the season to .549, and is now just the third player in program history to record at least 180 total hits.

Sophomore Katie Kish looked very comfortable hitting in the two spot, as she set a new career-high with four hits in the game including a double. She scored three times in the 10-run win.

Senior Cassie Asselta set a new career-high with five runs batted in, picking up a pair of timely hits to extend the team's lead. Addis was 2-for-5 with two runs batted in, while sophomore Amanda Marra scored twice.

Freshman Dana Weidinger was the winning pitcher in game one, while Erin Gordon got the win in relief in the nightcap.
