Charger Softball Goes 0-2 on First Day of Midwest Crossover

Game 1 box score: Kentucky Wesleyan 14, Hillsdale 8

Game 2 box score: Bellarmine 9, Hillsdale 5

The Hillsdale College softball team dropped a pair of high-scoring contests at the Midwest Regional Crossover in Evansville, Indiana Saturday afternoon.

Hillsdale lost a 14-8 slugfest to Kentucky Wesleyan in the opener before falling to Bellarmine University 9-5 in the second game. Two more contests await the Chargers Sunday, against Southern Indiana and McKendree.

KWC blew up for eight runs in the sixth inning, erasing what had been an 8-6 Charger lead in the opener. The top three batters in the Kentucky Wesleyan order combined for nine hits in 11 official at bats in the game.

Senior outfielder Bekah Kastning had a huge day for Hillsdale, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, three runs scored and 2 RBI in the opener, then going 3-for-4 with two more runs batted in against the Knights in the nightcap.

Kastning is batting .593 through the season's first seven games.

Sophomore Amanda Marra and freshman Victoria Addis each went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI in the day's first game. Addis had a double and triple, adding to an impressive start to her college career.

Sophomore Katie Kish had a double during a 2-for-3 game against Bellarmine, while freshman Shelby Sprouse also had a double in the loss. Junior Kelsey Gockman had a two-run single for the Chargers.
