The Hillsdale College softball team wrapped up a successful weekend of play at the prestigious NFCA Leadoff Classic in Clearwater, Florida with a victory Sunday morning.
Hillsdale came back from an early 2-0 deficit to post a 6-2 win over West Chester University. The Chargers finished the weekend with a 3-2 record, and resume play at Southern Indiana Feb. 24-26.
West Chester scored twice in the top of the third inning to grab a 2-0 lead. But Hillsdale responded immediately with five runs in the bottom of the third to take control. Freshman Victoria Addis belted a two-run single with the bases loaded, while sophomore Jessica Taylor drew a bases-loaded walk. Kelsey Gockman also delivered an RBI single, and Cassie Asselta scored off a well-executed squeeze play by freshman Erin Gordon.
Sophomore Amanda Marra got the scoring started with a double that scored senior Bekah Kastning.
For the fourth time in five games over the weekend, Kastning had a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
Freshman Dana Weidinger got the win on the mound, striking out two without issuing a walk.
