Game 2 box score: NU 8, HC 2

The Hillsdale College softball team suffered a pair of frustrating setbacks Sunday afternoon on the road to Northwood University.

The Chargers led 4-1, but lost the opener to the Timberwolves 5-4, losing in the bottom of the seventh inning. Northwood took game 2 by a score of 8-2.

The losses leave Hillsdale with an overall record of 13-15, and 4-6 in the GLIAC. A very busy week awaits the Chargers, starting with a home doubleheader Tuesday against Findlay.

In game 1, junior Danielle Garceua had a double and a home run, while freshman pitcher Danielle Stiene had eight strikeouts and no walks as Hillsdale built a 4-1 lead in the fifth inning. But the Timberwolves tied the game in the sixth with a three-run rally, then won it in the seventh. Garceau and Sarah Grunert were each 2-for-4 in the opener, while senior Kate Ardrey was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.

The Chargers stranded 10 runners in game 2, being held to two runs despite getting 10 hits in the loss. All 10 of Hillsdale's hits were singles.

Junior Sarah Klopfer was 2-for-4 in the second game while Grunert had another multi-hit game. Ardrey had a hit, a run driven in and a run scored.
