Warriors Claim 2 From Charger Softball Team

The Charger softball team saw its losing streak stretch to three games after getting swept in a GLIAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Detroit.

Hillsdale dropped games to Wayne State by scores of 3-0 and 4-3. The Chargers are now 9-13 overall and 2-4 in the GLIAC, and are scheduled to host Lourdes in a non-league doubleheader at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Hillsdlae.

In the opener, the Chargers were limited to three hits, and were struck out 13 times by Warriors pitcher Lyndsay Butler. Ainsley Ellison, Melissa Felkey and Jessica Taylor were the only Hillsdale players to reach base in the loss.

The top of the order generated a little more offense in the second game. Ellison was 2-for-3 with a run scored, while junior Sarah Klopfer clobbered a two-run home run in the fifth inning.

Freshman pitcher Danielle Steine allowed just one earned run in her appearance, as the Warriors were able to take advantage of two Charger errors in the second game.
