Hillsdale, Saginaw Valley Split Softball Twinbill

Game 1 box score: HC 4, SVSU 3

Game 2 box score: SVSU 5, HC 1

A year ago, the Charger softball team suffered a pair of one-sided, disheartening losses on the road against Saginaw Valley State University.

Friday afternoon, Hillsdale gained a little bit of revenge on the Cardinals.

Sophomore Jessie Fox stole third base and came around to score what would turn out to be the game-winning run on a throwing error in Hillsdale's come-from-behind 4-3 win over SVSU in game 1. The Cardinals powered their way to a 5-1 win over the Chargers in game 2.

Hillsdale is now 9-11 overall and 2-2 in the GLIAC, and will have a pair of tough road games against Wayne State University Saturday.

In game 1, the Chargers trailed 2-0 in the fifth inning when a three-run rally gave the team a lead. Senior Melissa Felkey provided the big blast of the inning with a two-run double, scoring freshman Kelsey Gockman and sophomore Bekah Kastning. Fox, who excels in her role as a pinch runner, gave the team a valuable insurance run in the top of the sixth.

Junior pitcher Sarah Klopfer earned the win on the mound, allowing two earned runs in six innings. Freshman Danielle Stiene earned her first career save in the win.

In game two, each team had six hits, but the Cardinals hit two doubles and two home runs to cash in on their chances.

Stiene had an RBI double for the Chargers, and fanned six batters in five innings.

Sophomore Kelli Eddie had two hits in the second game. Kastning had a hit, giving her at least one base hit in 18 of the team's 20 games this season.
