Chargers finish regular season strong at Last Chance meets

Several Hillsdale College men's track and field athletes were in action over the final weekend of regular season competition on Friday and Saturday, looking for one last good performance before the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships field is announced on Tuesday.

The Chargers competed at the Harrison Dillard Twilight Meet at Baldwin Wallace University on Friday, with many athletes in action.

Junior Ross Kuhn led the Chargers finishers with a new personal best in the 1,500m run, taking third in 3:49.25. Teammate Richie Johnston took 21st in the same race in 3:54.49 in a very competitive field.

Another junior, Jamahl Burke, took fifth in the 400m dash in 48.68, while senior Sean Fagan finished his Hillsdale College career with a fifth-place finish in the 400m hurdles in 53.43. Teammate Colsen Conway placed 16th in the same event in 55.94.

Two seniors ended their careers at Hillsdale with personal bests in the 200m dash, as Benu Meintjes took 17th with a time of 22.03 and Joseph Ritzer placed 22nd with a time of 22.15. Meintjes, Burke, Ritzer, and Fagan also teamed up for an eighth-place finish in 4x400m relay in 3:25.30.

Hillsdale's throwers were in action on Saturday at a Last Chance meet hosted by Grand Valley State University. Sophomore Ben Haas won the shot put with a mark of 16.62 meters, while freshman Tommy Flud took second in the javelin with a throw of 59.45 meters.

Hillsdale's athletes with provisional marks now await the announcement of the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships field on the evening of Tuesday, May 14. The 2024 Outdoor Championships will take place over three days, May 23-25, at Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas.
