Chargers make final preparations for championship season at Hillsdale Tune-Up

The Hillsdale College men's track and field team got one final competition in before the start of championship season next weekend, hosting the Hillsdale Tune-Up this Saturday, with several notable results.

On the track, sprinter Dagur Einarsson broke the seven second barrier in the 60 meter dash for the first time in his career, running 6.99 in the preliminaries and winning the event in a personal best time of 6.97. Teammate Owen Gardner finished runner-up in a time of 7.13, having run a personal best time of 7.07 in the prelims.

Hillsdale also went 1-2-3 in the 60m hurdles, with John Baldwin winning the race in 8.38, Colsen Coway finishing second in 8.39, and Cass Dobrowolski taking third in 8.55, and 1-2-3-4 in the 400m dash, with Benu Meintjes winning in 50.19, Maliq Brock taking second in 50.24, and Joseph Ritzer placing third in 51.38. Freshman Nathaniel Osborne also won the 5,000m run for the Chargers, in 15:43.80.

In the field, sophomore Ben Haas won the weight throw, nearly matching his personal best from last week that ranks in the top 10 in the nation with a throw of 20.10 meters. Dobrowolski took first in the high jump, with a clearance of 2.00 meters, and teammate Charlie Andrews took second with a jump of 1.90 meters. Freshman Connor McCormick also won the pole vault for the Chargers, with a clearance of 4.51 meters, and sophomore Alfonso Garcia won the triple jump with a distance of 12.56 meters.

Hillsdale next heads to the G-MAC Championships, hosted by Ashland on Friday, February 24 and Saturday, February 25. The Chargers will be aiming to match or improve upon a fourth place finish in 2022, while also qualifying as many athletes as possible to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships beginning on March 10 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
