Once again, the Hillsdale College men's and women's track and field programs represented excellence in the classroom as well as on the field of competition, with both teams earning 2019-20 USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.

It's an honor the Hillsdale College track and field program has grown used to receiving over the years, but that doesn't make it any less special, or impressive.

In order to receive the All-Academic distinction from the USTFCCCA, programs must have an average cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher across all athletes in the program.

Both the Charger men and women easily exceeded those marks in 2019-20, with the men posting a 3.44 cumulative GPA and the women finishing the school year with a 3.60 cumulative mark.

The Chargers were also well-represented among USTFCCCA individual All-Academic honorees, with four women and three men earning the distinction for the 2019-20 season.

In order to receive All-Academic honors from the USTFCCCA, an individual must hold a 3.25 or better cumulative GPA at the school they attend and have achieved an automatic or provisional qualifying mark for a 2020 NCAA Track and Field Championship meet during the season.

On the men's side, senior sprinter/hurdler Ian Brown (History), sophomore hurdler/multi-event athlete John Baldwin (Undeclared) and senior distance runner Joseph Humes (Chemistry) were all honored by the USTFCCCA for their athletic and academic accomplishments.

Brown had an NCAA DII Indoor provisional qualifying mark in the 60m hurdles (8.16), Baldwin achieved provisional marks in both the 60m hurdles (8.15) and the heptathlon (5,064), and Humes achieved a provisional mark in the mile (4:08.26).

Humes earned USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition all four years of his collegiate career, and Baldwin received his second straight USTFCCCA honor after being recognized as a freshman as well.

For the women, freshman sprinter/hurdler Judith Allison (Undeclared), sophomore sprinter Alanna O'Leary (Undeclared), senior middle distance runner Abbie Porter (Exercise Science) and junior distance runner Christina Sawyer (Biochemistry) earned All-Academic honors as well.

Allison and O'Leary were both members of a Hillsdale 4x400 relay team that surpassed a provisional qualifying mark (3:49.38), while Abbie Porter achieved a provisional mark in the 800m run (2:13.80) and Christina Sawyer achieved a provisional qualifying mark in the 5,000m run (17:15.15).

Porter is a four-time USTFCCCA All-Academic honoree, while Christina Sawyer earned the USTFCCCA recognition for the second time in her three-year career.
