After a strong start to its non-conference season, that has seen it move into the national rankings, the Charger men's tennis team began work on defending its Great Midwest Athletic Conference title Friday afternoon.

Hillsdale got the start it wanted with a 5-0 win over Davis & Elkins College at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. The win improves the 45th-ranked Chargers to 10-4 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The match was stopped when Hillsdale mathematically clinched the win.

The Chargers catpured the doubles point by winning all three flights. The closest match came at the No. 1 flight when Charlie Adams and Justin Hyman won a 7-6 decision.

John Ciraci and Brian Hackman were 6-4 winners at No. 2 doubles, while Michael Szabo and Gabe Katz won a 6-1 match at No. 3 doubles.

Adams hit some timely and accurate shots in picking up a 6-4, 7-5 win over the Senators' Obert Mulyadi, a talented player.

Hyman wasted little time in earning a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Ciraci was a 6-0, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles while Szabo kept up his winning streak with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles.
