Charger Men Knock Off 22nd-Ranked Ferris State

Box Score

The Hillsdale College men's tennis team keeps ascending.

The Chargers, already off to their best start in program history, marked another first Sunday afternoon in defeating #22 Ferris State 4-3 in a big regional matchup at the Margot V. Biermann Athletic Center. Hillsdale moves to 5-0 on the season with the win.

This victory also marked the first-ever over a nationally ranked opponent for the Chargers since their program was reinstituted in the Fall of 2015.

Once again, the Nos. 4-6 singles flights provided outstanding play for Hillsdale that paved the way to this win.

Ferris State took the doubles point by winning the Nos. 1-2 flights. Brian Hackman and Julien Clouette teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles and their strong play carried over into singles competition.

Hackman stepped in at the No. 4 singles spot and performed very well in a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 victory. Clouette notched a 7-5, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Gabe Katz picked up a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles.

But the match of the day came in the No. 1 singles flight, where junior Charlie Adams won a dramatic match 7-6, 6-7, 7-5 to clinch the win for Hillsdale. Adams is 5-0 in singles play this year, but no win was more challenging, or gratifying, than this one that gave his team its first-ever win over GLIAC foe Ferris State.

The win also wraps up a perfect 2-0 weekend where the Chargers notched wins over a pair of programs from the GLIAC, its former conference.
