Katz Wins Singles Flight at Racer Invitational

Sophomore Gabe Katz was the champion of the No. 5 singles flight at last weekend's Racer Invitational, hosted by the University of Northwest Ohio.

Katz led the Charger men's tennis team to a 16-11 overall record across singles and doubles competition at the event, held in Lima, Ohio. He notched wins over Northwestern Ohio 6-2, 6-1, Wayne State 7-6, 6-0 and another win over Northwestern Ohio in the championship 4-6, 6-2, 10-2.

Junior Charlie Adams won the consolation round at No. 1 singles, defeating Tiffin's Nikita Parfenov 6-3, 6-0. 

John Ciraci won the consolation bracket at No. 3 singles, picking up two wins over a pair of players from Tiffin by scores of 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-0. Brian Hackman won the No. 4 singles consolation thanks to a hard-fought three-set win over Northwestern Ohio in the finals. Jerry Hewitt also won his consolation flight, with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins. 

Highlighting the doubles action was Katz and Nico de Enrique Schmidt, who won the No. 3 consolation bracket with an 8-0 win over Tiffin.
