Charger Golfers Finish Strong at Greyhound Invite

Results

After a difficult start, the Hillsdale College golf team came on strong in the final two rounds of the Greyhound Invitational this week, moving up seven spots to finish eighth overall at the three-round event.

Hosted by the University of Indianapolis at the Purgatory Golf Club in Noblesville, Indiana, Hillsdale finished with a three-round score of 884, finishing just three strokes behind seventh-place Ashland.

Ferris State took first overall with a team score of 851, followed by the host Greyhounds (868) and Findlay (873). The team leaderboard tightened up considerably from how it started, with Hillsdale playing as well as anyone in the field during Tuesday's final round.

Freshman Josh Davenport has been outstanding in recent weeks, and led the Chargers' surge up the standings in the final two rounds. After an opening round 77, he fired back-to-back sub-70 rounds, with a 67 Monday and a 69 Tuesday to finish third overall with a score of 213.

Liam Purslowe improved his scores in all three rounds, going from a 74 to a 73 to a 71 to place second on the team and 19th overall with a 218. Ryan Zetwick finished with a 78-71-75--224 for third on the team. George Roberts was fourth with a 232 while Logan Anuszkiewicz finished with a three-round score of 237.

Given its success of late, the Chargers figure to be heading into the G-MAC championships - scheduled in two weeks - with a lot of confidence.
