Music City Invite Champs!

Results

For the second time this school year, the Charger men's golf team comes back to campus with some hardware.

Thanks in part to an incredible first round, Hillsdale won the Music City Invitational championship Tuesday afternoon with a two-round score of 570. The score was one shot better than second-place Findlay, who set a school record for a team score in a round, finishing with a 571. Host school Trevecca Nazarene was third with a 575.

After a scorching first round that saw the Chargers feature three players who shot 68 or better, four of the five players shot between a 72 and 77 in Tuesday's second round. But it was good enough for Hillsdale to win another trophy, coming just a couple weeks away from the G-MAC championships.

Freshman Josh Davenport has had a terrific season and finished tied for first overall at this event. He ended up losing a three-way playoff, conducted after completion of team play. He had a two-round score of 139, a career-best. He shot a 73 in Tuesday's second round.

Liam Purslowe led the team in round two with a 72, finishing fourth overall with a 140. Logan Anuszkiewicz and George Roberts tied for third on the team with a 149, while Ryan Zetwick finished with a 151, shooting a 77 on Tuesday.

ROUND 1 RECAP

To say the Charger men's golf team had a good day Monday would be a serious understatement.

Hillsdale put together an unbelievable round of golf on the first day of the Music City Invitational, hosted by Trevecca Nazarene and played at the Hermitage Golf Course.

As a team, the Chargers shot an unbelievable 14-under par 274 after the first round. Hillsdale holds a nine-shot lead over second-place and host Trevecca entering Tuesday's round of competition.

Josh Davenport and George Roberts each shot a career-best 66 in the opening round. They are now tied for the lowest round ever registered by any Charger player since the program was reinstituted prior to the 2014-15 academic year. Individually, Davenport and Roberts are tied for second overall through one round.

Liam Purslowe shot a 68, which normally would lead the team and a field, but in this case, was third on the Chargers. Ryan Zetwick (74) and Logan Anuszkiewicz (75) also turned in solid first rounds for Hillsdale.

Davenport was on a roll Monday. He carded seven birdies as part of his 6-under par 66 on the day. Roberts got rolling right away, notching four birdies in his first six holes overall to jump to the front of the leaderboard immediately. Purslowe recorded four straight birdies on the front nine to help Hillsdale run away from the pack at this tournament.
