Patrick Cartier Wins First G-MAC Player of the Week Award

Patrick Cartier Wins First G-MAC Player of the Week Award

Few freshmen in any Hillsdale College sport have made the impact Patrick Cartier has in his first few weeks donning the blue and white in 2019-20. Monday afternoon, he was singled out for his performances.

Cartier, a freshman forward for the Chargers, was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office.

Saturday afternoon, Cartier set a new career-high with 28 points in the Chargers' 71-59 win over Lake Erie College, keeping them in sole possession of first place in the G-MAC. Cartier was on target from all angles in the win, going 10-for-12 from the field and 8-for-10 from the free throw line. He was an unstoppable force near the basket, doing a terrific job at establishing low post position throughout the game to create easy shots for himself. Nineteen of those 28 points - a team season-high this year - were scored in the second half.

Cartier also pulled down 8 rebounds and blocked 2 shots in the win. He leads the G-MAC with a .664 field goal percentage this year, an astonishing 82 points better than any other player. He's also the first freshman playing for coach John Tharp at Hillsdale (2007-present) to win a conference player of the week award. He hails from Brookfield, Wisconsin.
