Cavs Hang on to Top Chargers

Cavs Hang on to Top Chargers

Box Score

A frustrating night shooting from the floor led to a 63-59 looss suffered by the Hillsdale College men's basketball team Saturday afternoon. The loss drops the Chargers to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the G-MAC.

Hillsdale shot 34 percent from the floor in the game and went 5-for-24 from 3-point land. It was the kind of game where the team got the looks it wanted from the floor, the shots just didn't fall.

Momentum switched in the game when the Cavs hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left in the first half to take their first lead into the halftime locker room, 31-30. Walsh came out and hit Hillsdale with a 14-3 run to open the second half and extend that lead to 10, 44-34 with 14:28 to go.

The Chargers never led in the second half, but a burst of energy late in the half helped close the gap to as little as 3 after a jumper by sophomore Connor Hill. But the Cavs responded with a 3-pointer just eight seconds later and held on for the victory.

Walsh outrebounded Hillsdale 47-37 and limited the Chargers to four offensive rebounds in the game.

Hillsdale's three leading scorers in this game all came off the bench. Hill led the team in scoring for the first time in his career with 14 points, going 6-for-10 from the floor. Senior Jonathan Wilkinson made four 3-pointers and had 12 points, while senior Nick Czarnowski had 10 points, 3 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.

As a team the Chargers had a season-high 11 blocks. Czarnowski, Davis Larson and Gordon Behr had three each.
