Kyle Cooper Named to CoSIDA Captial One Academic All-District Team

CoSIDA Academic All-District release

Evidence of Kyle Cooper's basketball excellence has been abundant throughout this 2014-15 season. He's currently the GLIAC's second-leading scorer and top rebounder while logging heavy minutes on the court for the Chargers.

Not as evident is the work he puts in hitting the books.

Cooper's outstanding basketball season, combined with one of the highest overall grade point averages for any student-athlete on Hillsdale's campus, helped land him on the CoSIDA Captial One Academic All-District Team (District 4). The award was announced by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) Thursday afternoon.

Entering play Thursday, Cooper averages 20.8 points and 10.4 rebounds per game for the Charger men's basketball team. He's shooting 55 percent from the field, 48 percent from 3-point land, and 84 percent from the free throw line.

This award is nominated by and voted on sports information directors from Division II schools across the country. Cooper is the first Charger men's basketball player under head coach John Tharp to earn a spot on the academic all-district team. He is just one of five players in District 4 (which is equivalent to the Midwest Region) to earn this honor. Megan Fogt erned the honor on the women's basketball side, making Hillsdale College the only District 4 institution to place players on both the men's and women's academic all-district teams.

Cooper is now eligible for Academic All-American status through the CoSIDA organization. Those awards will be announced next month. He is majoring in accounting.
