Dezelski Earns Third-Team All-American Honors from Daktronics

2013-14 Daktronics All-American Men's Basketball Release

Tim Dezelski spent his first season with the Hillsdale College men's basketball program on the bench, in dress clothes, sitting out the 2009-10 season as a redshirted player.

He finished it at the mountain top.

Monday afternoon, Dezelski was named Third-Team All-American by Daktronics, in voting conducted by NCAA Division II sports information directors nationwide. He was one of just 15 players across all NCAA Division II institutions to be named All-American by the organization, and one of two players from the GLIAC, being joined by Findlay's Greg Kahlig.

Dezelski was previously named First-Team All-GLIAC and First-Team All-Region by Daktronics. The NABC, the National Association of Basketball Coaches, tabbed Dezeksli Second-Team All-Region.

In 2013-14, Dezelski put up all-around numbers rarely seen anywhere, and unheard of in the 100-plus year history of men's basketball at Hillsdale College. He was the only player in the country, and the only player in school history, to compile 600 or more points, 250 or more rebounds and more than 100 assists in the same season. His all-around sklls were a major part in the team compiling an 18-9 record this season.

His 22.9 scoring average was good for third in the GLIAC at the end of the regular season, and his 9.6 rebounds per game easily led the conference in 2013-14. But beyond that, he ranked in the GLIAC's top 10 in an astounding 10 different statistical categories, ranging from blocked shots to field goals made.

He was incredibly consistent throughout the 27-game marathon of a season this year. He scored in double figures in every single game, and finished his career on a streak of 38 consecutive games with 10 or more points. He compiled 10 double-doubles, and hit high marks of 35 points versus Sweet Sixteen team Michigan Tech, 17 rebounds against Saginaw Valley State, 8 assists against Malone and 4 steals and blocks on multiple occasions.

Dezelski landed in the college's single-season top-10 list in several categories. He finished fifth in total points scored, and his total of 617 points was the most scored by any player at Hillsdale in the past 25 years. His 223 field goals made were the fourth-most made in a season in school history, which is made even more impressive by his .572 field goal percentage. His efficiency is shown by the fact that he took 407 shots to produce those 617 points.

Dezelski started for the Chargers in just his final two seasons, but he still finished ninth in school history with 713 career rebounds, and his 141 steals were ninth-most in a career. Keep in mind, he played mostly power forward and center, and yet was one of the school's 10 best swipers in history, which shows his versatility. Over his four-year career, he made 55.8 percent of his field goals, sixth-best in school history.

Earlier in the season he passed the 1,000-point plateau, and finished his career with 1,450 points, 12th-most in a career in school history.

He becomes the second All-American in the past three seasons from the Hillsdale College program, joining Brad Guinane in 2011-12. Prior to Guinane and Dezelski, the Chargers had never produced an NCAA Division II All-American men's basketball player.
