Bio

Entering his sixth season with the Hillsdale College football program this fall, and his fourth as a full assistant coach, Rob Rardin has brought decades of coaching experience and leadership to the Charger staff.

A proud Marine Corps veteran, Rardin got into coaching after being discharged from the military, taking an assistant coaching position at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, a suburb of Akron. Success with the Warriors led to a graduate assistant opportunity at the nearby University of Akron in the fall of 1990, and after two years as a G.A. with the Zips, Rardin received a full-time position in 1992, and spent the next three seasons coaching tight ends and offensive tackles for the Division I Mid-American Conference program.

Leaving Akron in 1995, Rardin embarked on a successful 20-year career as a teacher and high school football coach in Ohio, serving as a head coach or assistant coach for multiple programs across the state. During his career, Rardin had the chance to coach multiple future NFL players, including current Tennessee Titans coach Mike Vrabel at Walsh Jesuit, former Miami Dolphins star and Hall of Fame defensive end Jason Taylor at Akron, and offensive lineman Rob Sims, who spent nearly a decade in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions, during a stint at Nordonia High School in Ohio.

After retiring from teaching and coaching, Rardin found that he couldn't stay away from the game he loved, and Hillsdale College was happy to add his experience and knowledge to its staff, first as a volunteer assistant in 2018 working with the offensive line, then as the team's full-fledged Tight Ends and H-Backs coach in 2019.

A native of Stow, OH near Akron, Rardin resides in Jonesville, MI during the season. He's supported by his wife, Tracey, and his two daughters, Lisa, a 2017 Hillsdale College graduate, and Catherine.
