Great Midwest Athletic Conference announces Spring 2021 football schedule

This fall, a once-in-a-century pandemic meant that, for the first time since 1944, there were no football games at Hillsdale College.

But that doesn't mean that there won't be any Charger football in the 2020-21 academic calendar year. 

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has decided to allow its member schools to conduct a six-game football schedule in the spring, as well as awarding a conference championship to the team that finishes with the best record.

The conference office announced the schedule on Monday, setting the first permissible practice date for member institutions at Feb. 1, and scheduling the first conference game for competing teams on March 13.

Hillsdale will play host to three home games in this unprecedented spring football slate, hosting long-time rival Findlay on March 13, as well as G-MAC foes Lake Erie on March 27 and Tiffin on April 3.

The Chargers also will make trips to Kentucky Wesleyan on March 20, Walsh on April 10, and wrap up the spring season at Ohio Dominican on April 24.

Hillsdale finished fourth in the G-MAC in 2019, with a 4-3 conference record and a 6-5 record overall, but are just two seasons removed from an outright G-MAC title in 2018, and return several key pieces on both sides of the ball, including quarterback and G-MAC co-Freshman of the Year Luke Keller, prolific wide receiver Konnor Maloney, and All-G-MAC defenders Zach Herzog and Alex Anschutz.

There are also three open dates on the calendar, Feb. 27, March 6 and April 17, for potential non-conference opportunities. All times for the games are to be determined, so be sure to keep an eye on the schedule page at hillsdalechargers.com for further updates as the season approaches.

As of right now, attendance and ticket policies for the spring 2021 football season have yet to be determined. The Hillsdale College Athletic Department will announce those policies, as well as any potential ticket sale opportunities, as soon as we are able.
