Zach Herzog Named G-MAC Defensive Player of the Week

Zach Herzog wasn't in on every tackle the Charger defense made on Saturday. It only seemed like he was.

Herzog, a sophomore safety, had a breakthrough performance in Hillsdale's season opener Saturday, and was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week. The award was announced and chosen by the conference office Monday morning.

Facing a tough and relentless Michigan Tech offense, Herzog stepped up, making 20 total tackles, 10 solo and 10 assisted tackles to lead all players in the 29-14 loss. His mark of 20 tackles for the game marked the first time a Charger football player has made that many stops in a game since former All-Region linebacker Tom Korte did it back on September 22, 2007. Herzog's performance was one of several excellent games turned in by players on the Charger defense in the 2019 season opener.

Herzog played his high school football at Holy Names High School in Windsor, Ontario,
