EXTRA POINTS:

Football night in Hillsdale is here, as the Chargers get the 2018 season started under the lights at home against Mercyhurst University...These two teams last met in the 2017 season opener in Pennsylvania, with Hillsdale winning 19-11...The 2018 Chargers bring back a polished group of skill position players on offense, led by QB Chance Stewart, who will be in his fourth season as the team's starting signal-caller...The last Hillsdale quarterback to start a game across four different seasons was Mark Nicolet, who played from 2004-07...Stewart enters play this year ranked sixth in school history in passing yards with 6,460 through his first three seasons...His favorite target, Trey Brock, is on the verge of setting records of his own...Entering the 2018 season, Brock needs 114 receiving yards to pass Andre Holmes as Hillsdale's all-time receiving yards leader...Brock has 2,979 yards in his career, and Holmes, currently playing with the Buffalo Bills, had 3,092 in his career that spanned from 2007-10...Brock also ranks fourth in school history with 177 receptions, leaving him 43 shy of Holmes' career record in that category...This year's team captains are Stewarty, senior LB Jay Rose, senior DB Wyatt Batdorff and senior OL Drew Callahan...Head coach Keith Otterbein has 98 victories in his Charger coaching career, third-most by a coach in the 126-year history of the program...Both teams are members of Super Region 1, making this a regional contest for both teams...Regionals wins go a long way to determining a team's fate in the NCAA's regional rankings, which come out in late October.
