4 Chargers Earn All-American Honors From Don Hansen

2018 Don Hansen All-American Football Release

The 2018 season was one to remember for anyone associated with the Hillsdlae College football program. But for four of the team's players, it was a season where they wrote themselves into the history books.

Wide receiver Trey Brock (Second Team), quarterback Chance Stewart (Third Team), offensive lineman Drew Callahan and safety Wyatt Batdorff (Honorable Mention) all received All-American honors from the Don Hansen Division II Football Committee, released Tuesday morning.

This All-American program originated in 2003 out of Don Hansen's Football Gazette, a publication that covered all divisions of college football. The publication ran for more than three decades, until Mr. Hansen's passing in 2010. Division II All-American players have been selected through this program since 1988.

With four selections, the Chargers were one of the most well-represented teams out of Super Region 1 in the All-American lists.

Brock adds another All-American honor to his considerable résumé after a record-breaking year. The four-year starter at wide receiver set career school records for receiving yards (4,401), receptions (256) and touchdown catches (40). In 2018, he hauled in 79 catches for 1,422 yards and 17 touchdowns and was named First-Team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association.

Stewart nabbed his first All-American award after a breathtaking 2018 campaign. He was named the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year while throwing for a school-record 3,588 yards and 28 touchdowns. He concluded his career setting a new school record with 10,064 passing yards and his 73 career touchdown passes is also a school record.

Batdorff was the 2018 G-MAC Defensive Back of the Year and excelled in run support and making plays from his safety position. He started all 45 games of his career and had 293 total tackles, four interceptions and seven pass break-ups.

Callahan was the team's starting center in 2018 and was an important cog in making the offense click. He was ultra-competitive, incredibly consistent and was smart and well-prepared every day in practice and at every game.
