Charger Football Program Welcomes Freshman Class of 2015

Charger Football Program Welcomes Freshman Class of 2015

Hillsdale College head coach Keith Otterbein is proud to unveil the incoming freshman class of 2015. A total of 21 football players agreed to join the Charger program on National Signing Day Feb. 4, but several more will join this class throughout the spring.

"The academic standards here at Hillsdale are only getting tougher year by year, and we have an outstanding group of student-athletes coming to campus as part of this class," Otterbein said. "Our staff is tireless in its pursuit of kids who can not only help our program, but will excel in the classroom as well."

There was an emphasis on both lines among the initial group of 21 players in this class. Nine of those 21 are slated to play either offensive line or defensive line. Four more are linebackers, while three more are defensive backs.

How members of this class do on the field for the Chargers remains to be seen. But ths group enters Hillsdale College with some very impressive academic credentials. The class has an average high school grade point average of 3.71 and an average ACT score of 28.2.

Clarke is part of a set of triplets in his family, all of whom are playing college sports. His brother Mac will play soccer at San Diego State University, and his sister Riley will play basketball for the Air Froce Academy.

Canada was a starter on a Clarkston High School team that has won 27 straight games and was back-to-back Division I state champions in Michigan.

Look for more names to be added to the list below as more players commit to Hillsdale in the coming weeks.

During the 2014 season, a handful of true freshman saw plenty of playing time for Hillsdale, including wide receiver Brian Newman and linebacker Jay Rose

The 2015 season features six home games for Hillsdale, three of which come in the month of September, all 7:00 kickoffs. The season gets underway on Sept. 5 against the University of Findlay.
