After a very successful playing career for the Hillsdale College baseball team across five seasons, Cody Kanclerz is stepping off of the diamond and into the dugout as the newest assistant coach for the Chargers, beginning in the fall of 2023.

Kanclerz was an every-day starter at third base for four straight seasons and a key part of some of the best hitting lineups in Hillsdale College history from 2020 to 2023. Originally recruited as a pitcher with strong two-way potential, Kanclerz quickly matured into a standout batter and fielder for the Chargers, finishing his career ninth all-time in Hillsdale history in hits (177) and tied for third in runs scored (136) while batting near the top of the order throughout his time as a starter. 

In his senior season in 2023, Kanclerz helped lead the team to a program-record 20 conference wins and a fourth-place finish in the G-MAC, both high-water marks for Hillsdale College baseball since joining the G-MAC for the 2018 season. Individually, he posted career highs in doubles, triples, home runs and RBIs in his final campaign.

A native of Plymouth, Michigan, Kanclerz came to Hillsdale from Detroit Catholic Central, a high school with a tradition-rich baseball program in the Catholic High School League, the top prep baseball conference in the state of Michigan. During his time with the Shamrocks, Kanclerz led DCC to a MHSAA D1 district championship in 2016 before joining the Chargers program.
