Bio

In the summer of 2022, after a year as an assistant with the Hillsdale College baseball team, Brian Johnston changed roles in the athletics department and embarked on a new challenge, moving into the administrative office as the deparment's new Administrative Coordinator for Institutional Advancement.

In his new position, Johnston assists Director of External Afffairs Jeff Lantis in fundraising for the Athletic Department, while also serving as the primary coordinator of athletic department events throughout the calendar year.

Johnston came to Hillsdale from Division I Western Kentucky University, where he spent the 2019-2020 school year working as a graduate assistant in the Hilltopper athletic department in administrative roles after serving as a student manager for the WKU baseball team in the 2019 season. During his time with the Hilltoppers, Johnston traveled with the baseball team and served as the primary bullpen catcher, while also assisting with daily practices and equipment and facility management. Johnston also spent the summer of 2019 working as an Operations Intern with Bullpen Tournaments in Westfield, Indiana, helping run a 26-field facility that plays host to several large amateur baseball tournaments every summer.

A native of Paducah, Kentucky and a graduate of Paducah St. Mary High School, Johnston played a year of college baseball at Olney Central College, a junior college in Olney, Illinois, where he served as a catcher for the Knights before transferring to Western Kentucky to complete his degree.  Johnston graduated from Western Kentucky in 2019 with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management and also completed a Masters Degree in Sports Management in May, 2021 from the same institution.
