Baseball Falls to ODU in Saturday Twinbill

Game 1 box score: Ohio Dominican 1, Hillsdale 0

Game 2 box score: Ohio Dominican 19, Hillsdale 2

The Charger baseball team lost a pair of G-MAC contests to Ohio Dominican University 1-0 and 19-2 Saturday afternoon at Simpson Field. The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Hillsdale's senior day, with a noon start to the first game.

Game one Saturday was a classic pitchers' duel with Hillsdale's Jonathan Lapshan spinning a gem on the mound in his last home start. He threw all nine innings while allowing just four hits, no walks and one run with two strikeouts. Lapshan threw with his usual strong location and didn't let the Panthers make any kind of solid contact with the ball, except for one, a home run off the bat of ODU's Robbie Jobe. That turned out to be the only run of a quick and very well-played opening game.

It was a different story in game two, as the Panther bats got cooking quickly, scoring four times in the first inning, then adding seven more in the second to put the game out of reach.

Junior Jake Hoover hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to provide the only scoring for the Chargers in the second game.
