A wild non-conference game ended in a positive fashion for the Hillsdale College baseball team Thursday night in nearby Adrian.
The Chargers pulled out a 13-11 win over Siena Heights, improving to 19-23 on the season.
This game featured a seven-run inning from Hillsdale and two five-run innings by the Saints. Siena Heights scored five times in the bottom of the seventh to turn an 11-6 Hillsdale lead into an 11-11 tie. But the Chargers' top power hitter stepped forward in a time where his team needed him most.
Junior Steven Ring hit his 11th home run of the season in the top of the eighth inning to allow Hillsdale to retake the lead, 12-11. That shot was the 31st of his career, leaving him just two homers shy of tying the all-time career record at Hillsdale.
Ryan O'Hearn drove in a big insurance run in the ninth to put Hillsdale up two. But the Saints threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with one out. Freshman pitcher David Toth answered the bell, striking out the final two batters to clinch his seventh save of the season.
Sophomore Kolton Rominski picked up the win in relief, allowing no earned runs in 1 1/3 innings on the mound.
Infielder Kevin Monson had his best day at the plate as a Charger, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored and one batted in. O'Hearn was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Dylan Lottinville was 2-for-4 with a double, 3 RBI and a run scored.
Senior Alex Walts played center field and first base, raising the number of positions he's played in his career to eight. Michael Mitchell tripled and scored twice for Hillsdale.
