In a rescheduled doubleheader, getting ahead of a major Midwest storm, the Charger baseball team split with conference rival Findlay Friday afternoon, losing game one 8-1 while winning game two 6-1.
The split leaves Hillsdale at 16-20 overall and 13-5 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
The Charger bats were shut down in the opener, as the team did scratch out eight hits, but stranded nine runners on base. Findlay scored four times in the first inning and two more in the second to take a big early lead. Steven Ring was 2-for-4 while Chris Ackerman was 2-for-3 in the opener.
Game two saw another dominating performance from sophomore pitcher Andrew Verbrugge. He once again showed the stuff that has seen him turn in the finest pitching of his young career over his last seveal appearances.
The Oilers entered Friday's second game having scored 19 runs in the previous two games. Verbrugge iced the Findlay bats to the tune of three hits and one run allowed in a nine-inning gem. He struck out five batters as he showed excellet command of all of his pitches.
Dylan Lottinville homered while Colin Hites went 3-for-4 with a run scored from his leadoff position. Ryan O'Hearn scored twice while Dante Toppi and Alex Walts each had a hit and a run scored.
