The Charger baseball team suffered a 14-4 defeat at the hands of Grand Valley State University in a non-conference matchup in Allendale Tuesday afternoon. The loss knocks Hillsdale down to 15-18 on the season.

The game started in promising fashion for Hillsdale, as senior Alex Walts clipped a single to left scoring Colin Hites, who led off the game with a double. But that lead would only last another inning as the Lakers scored six times in the bottom of the second to take control of the game.

GVSU added runs in the third and fourth, then scored four more times in the fifth to pull way out in front. The Lakers outhit the Chargers 14-7 in the game.

A highlight for Hillsdale was the ninth home run of the season off the bat of junior Steven Ring. His solo shot gives him 29 home runs for his career, just four shy of Hillsdale's all-time record.

Walts went 2-for-5 with 2 RBI for Hillsdale, while Hites had a hit and scored twice.
