Game 2 box score: Hillsdale 10, Ohio Valley 1

The Charger baseball team fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play in the opener Monday afternoon. But Hillsdale bounced back impressively to return to the win column in the nightcap.

Hillsdale suffered its first G-MAC loss in a 3-1 defeat in the first of two games played on the campus of Ohio Dominican University. The Chargers scored eight runs in the sixth and seventh innings of a 10-1 win in the nightcap. The Chargers are now 14-15 overall and 11-1 in the G-MAC.

In the opener, Hillsdale outhit Ohio Valley 8-7, but the Chargers stranded five runners on base and struck out nine times in the defeat. Colin Boerst, Jake Hoover and Ryan O'Hearn all had multi-hit games in the opener.

Game two was also tightly played, with Hillsdale holding a 2-1 lead entering the sixth inning. But junior Steven Ring helped the bats heat up on a frigid day in Ohio.

Ring hit his seventh home run of the season, a two-run shot, to loosen the score up to 4-1. One inning later, the Chargers scored six times to blow it open.

Dylan Lottinville had the big shot of the inning with a 3-run home run.

Senior Alex Walts was 2-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI and two runs scored in the victory. O'Hearn notched a 3-for-3 day, scoring once and driving one in, while Dante Toppi and Jake Hoover each went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Sophomore Kolton Rominski earned the victory on the mound, working six innings, striking out three with one walk and one run allowed. His strike-to-ball ratio was strong, with 55 strikes thrown out of 88 total pitches thrown.
