Chargers Drop Non-Conference Game at Davenport

Two big innings were the difference as the Hillsdale College baseball team lost a non-conference matchup with Davenport University Tuesday night in Caledonia, Michigan.

The Panthers scored 17 of their 23 runs in two innings in a 23-12 win over the Chargers. Hillsdale, now 11-14 on the season, will play its first conference road games this weekend at Ohio Valley and Cedarville.

After taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, the Chargers lost the lead in the bottom of the first, when Davenport took a 3-2 lead. The Panthers would score nine runs in the fourth inning and eight more in the seventh to take control of the game.

Hillsdale had a big innings of its own, scoring six times in the top of the sixth to cut its deficit from nine to three (13-10). The Panthers outhit the Chargers 20-10 in the game and the teams combined for 22 runners left on base.

Senior Alex Walts was Hillsdale's top performer at the plate. He went 3-for-5 with a run batted in and two runs scored. Chris Ackerman had a two-run triple in the first inning, and Jake Hoover was 2-for-2 with 2 RBI. Dylan Lottinville scored twice and drove in two runs for the Chargers.
