Hillsdale Loses Twice to Ill.-Springfield Sunday

The Hillsdale College baseball offense was held in check in a doubleheader sweep at the hands of Illinois-Springfield Sunday afternoon.

The Prairie Star pitchers limited the Chargers to three runs and seven hits in 16 innings of baseball, with UIS winning both games by scores of 3-1 and 3-2. Hillsdale enters Great Midwest Athletic Conference play with a 3-13 overall record.

Hillsdale's pitchers turned in one of their better performances of the season between Sunday's two games. Senior Phil Carey struck out five in a six-inning start in the opener, with sophomore Kolton Rominski tossing two innings with just one hit and no runs allowed. 

The Chargers' lone run in the opener was provided by sophomore Jake Hoover, who doubled home Ryan O'Hearn

In game two, four of the game's five total runs were scored in the third inning. Two of Illinois-Springfield's three runs in the game were scored off wild pitches. James Krick and Steven Ring each had RBI singles for Hillsdale.

Freshman Chris Dunn took the loss in the second game, and freshman Sawyer Allen tossed four scoreless innings in relief.
