Bellarmine Finishes Off Weekend Sweep of Hillsdale

The Charger baseball team lost both ends of a Sunday non-conference doubleheader to Bellarmine University in Louisville, Kentucky by scores of 8-4 and 8-2, dropping its record to 2-10 on the season.

The first game saw Hillsdale give up two runs in the second, third and fourth innings as the Knights took an early lead. The Chargers made up four runs of a six-run deficit in the top of the sixth.

Rob Zurawski doubled home Alex Walts for the team's first run of the game. Ryan O'Hearn's bunt single later scored Zurawski to highlight the inning. 

Walts was 2-for-4 with a run scored, and O'Hearn had a hit, an RBI and a run scored in the opener.

Hillsdale got a quality start from sophomore pitcher Andrew Verbrugge in the second game. He allowed two earned runs in five innings on the mound, but ended up taking the loss. The Knights broke up a 1-1 tie with a three-run home run in the sixth.

Junior Steven Ring hit his first home run of the season in the top of the second inning to highlight the Charger offense. Junior Colin Boerst had a hit, a run scored and a run batted in while James Krick had a double.
